Waxing is a well-known method of hair removal that is used by men and women both. The good thing
about this method is that it can be done in the privacy of your home, or if you
prefer, you can also visit a beauty salon, as waxing hair removal
has become a
popular method everywhere.
It is important to understand what the process of waxing hair removal is and to
follow certain tips to avoid side effects.
Waxing is done to remove unwanted hair from the body and the results are very
satisfactory. It can last for a long period of time - anywhere between three to
eight weeks. This will differ from person to person, as this depends on the skin
and hair type, and also the hair growth rate.
You have to careful while doing waxing at home. Read the instructions of the
product carefully and make sure you follow them. The wax needs to be heated, so
it is important that you stick to the time limit given in the instructions. Then
check the temperature of the product first by applying the wax to a small area
to avoid any burns.
The area on which the wax is to be used has to be completely dry. Place a small
layer of the wax on the area where the hair has to be removed. It has to be applied in the direction that the hair is
growing. After that, place the enclosed strip by pressing it over the waxed area
as indicated in the instructions. Make sure that you leave a small portion of
the strip at the end free of the wax, keeping in mind that it has to be pulled
back in the opposite direction that the wax was applied.
When the strip is removed, it should not be pulled in an upward motion, but
rather back towards you. Pulling back and not up will help to prevent ingrown
hairs! The pulling should be done quickly and evenly. This minimizes the pain.
Repeat the process to remove any hair that was missed. You may need to practice
a few times till you get it right.
Although waxing works well with every skin type and any hair length, it is best
performed when the hair is a quarter of an inch in length. In case your hair
length exceeds this, then it is recommended that you first trim it to the
appropriate length before apply the waxing method.
PRECAUTIONS
Do not use wax on any open
wounds or in areas where your skin is damaged.
Never take a shower before waxing. Your skin should be dry. Showering before
waxing hair removal will cause the hairs on the body to absorb water, therefore
making it difficult to pull out the hairs.
There are certain things that you must not forget to do after the waxing
process. Always remember to remove any excess wax following your treatment. You
can use a warm moist cloth to do this. Do not touch your skin for sometime after
the treatment to avoid any infections.
Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes after the waxing hair removal process to leave the area of the skin free from
infections. It is good to exfoliate the area one or two days following the
procedure. You should also avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight for a few
days, as it will be very sensitive.
To complete the treatment, apply a light lotion or oil
to the skin.
Never wax sunburned skin-it has a tendency to come
right off.
It is recommended you don't wax three days prior to and
during the first three days of your menstrual cycle because your skin is
more sensitive then.
For bikini waxing, trim long hair and it will be a more
comfortable procedure (less hair to pull).
