Oily hair tends to be very strong and healthy, and is easily styled. However, it loses
its style quickly and becomes stringy and limp, and is prone to dandruff.
1. Be sure to brush regularly and to massage your scalp to promote
circulation. These
actions do not increase oil production and they will maintain your hair’s
health.
2. Use a cleansing-only shampoo. Ones with citric juice or malic acid will
be especially
effective in removing excess grease.
3. Don’t use a daily or a baby shampoo. They will probably be too gentle to
provide much
cleansing. Avoid conditioning shampoos
because they contain oils and waxes
that will only
add weight to your hair.
4. If you have dandruff, use a shampoo with sulfur. Your doctor can give you a prescription for a very
strong sulfur
shampoo.
5. If you use a conditioner, you don’t need one with aloe, balsam, protein,
jojoba oil, or
waxes. Look for ones with hydrolyzed proteins or silicones. If you have
processed hair, apply
the conditioner only at the ends of your hair where it’s drier.
6. The best after-shampoo treatment is to add the juice of 1 lemon in a cup
of warm water
and pour it all over your hair. Rinse out with cool water. Lemon juice is an
astringent that will
close the pores in your hair, blocking the release of oil, and will make
your hair shiny.
7. The best styling product is mousse because it does not contain oils and
will add volume.
8. Always blow-dry away from your scalp. Letting your hair dry naturally
as
it rests on your scalp allows it to pick up oils.
9. Don’t use hair spray. It’ll only collect dust and moisture from the air.
10. Do not wash everyday. The cleaner your hair is the more it can seep into your
glands and harder it is to get rid of. When you do wash make sure you are
washing with a cleaning shampoo and scrubbing the
build up off. Take in mind
that you also have to have a ph-balanced mild shampoo and lite scrubbing is
recommended. Try to avoid conditioner at the roots, apply in the middle or on
the ends.
11. Try to avoid oil in your daily food intake. And do eat more vegetables. You
could visit your doctor but only after you check and consider your diet, drugs,
alcohol, and your fatty food intake.
12. Maybe it's time to change your shampoo. Ask your stylist what she or he would
recommend. Avoid using shine products at all costs. Keep away from two-in-one
shampoos and conditioners and any
frizz serums.
13. To fix at
the moment, rub a little Talcum Powder on your dried hair at the roots. Just
make sure you wash it out. I wish they would event that magic product, but this
will help until they do.
14. Add patchouli to your shampoo if you have oily hair.
15. Soap nuts i.e. Reetha is also a fine material for conditioning hair. You can
soak them in water overnight and mash them in the morning. Let the water drain
away and add a teaspoon of shikakai with the gel.
16.
Massage
your hair with a toning lotion once in two weeks. A teaspoon of malt
vinegar mixed with salt in a glass of water is a good toning lotion. After
applying it on your scalp leave it for about an hour.
17. If
your scalp is naturally oil, you probably have to shampoo your hair daily
to keep it from looking greasy or stringy. If, however, you are running
short on time or need a quick lift in the middle of the day, grab a box of
cornstarch and a large, clean blush brush.
18.
Pour some cornstarch out onto a dish and dip the brush into it. Then, with
a comb, part your hair in the center and brush the cornstarch onto your
scalp and roots. Make another part 1/4 to ½ inch off-center and repeat.
Continue this method down one side of your head, then from the center and
down the other side.
19. Go
about your business for about 10 minutes while the cornstarch soaks up the
excess oils in your hair. Then, take a brush and brush out your hair,
ridding it of the cornstarch flakes.
20.
Stress,
hormonal activity (puberty, childbirth), thyroid problems and eating too
much fatty food and chocolates are what usually cause oily hair. Oily hair
needs to be washed more often but don't scrub too hard while washing. It
won't get your hair any cleaner or less oilier. What it will do is further
aggravate the already overactive sebaceous glands on your scalp, not to
mention cause damage to the delicate follicles.
21.
And
don't pile hair on the head while shampooing, even though it may look
great in the ads. It causes tangling, leading to further breakage.
22.
You
could add lemon to the final rinse for a great shine.
23.
If you
don't have time to shampoo every few days or feel lazy and leave it oily,
your hair won't just look terrible, but dirt will get lodged under its
surface causing breakage and damage not to mention dandruff.
This will
lead to skin problems such as acne on your chest, back and face. So you
need to be careful about washing hair regularly, though you could
condition it just twice a month. However, if your hair has been chemically
treated, you should condition hair after every wash as chemical strips
hair of its natural oils.
24.
Only
apply conditioner to the ends of your hair, and use one tailored for oily
hair.
25.
Avoid
brushing your hair too often or too vigorously, since brushing helps to
transport oil from your roots to the ends of your hair, leaving hair limp
and greasy throughout its length.
26.
Also
take care to avoid frequently touching or fussing with your hair.
Frequently touching your hair not only helps to shift the oil from your
roots to your tips, but it can add additional oil from your hands to
already greasy hair.
Oily hair
home cure: Shampoo Cleanser Recipe 1. Buy some shikakai powder
from the market. Powder some green grams and fenugreek (methi)

like a soap, or shampoo, but cleanses the hair.

some dry soap nuts (reetha) and soak them in water overnight.
Mash them in the morning and strain the soapy solution. Add a
teaspoon of shikakai powder and wash your hair.

to make the shampoo cleanser at home, use this infusion recipe.
Prepare it and mix it in the shampoo you use. To make the
infusion, boil two handfuls of mint (pudina) in
one-and-a-half glass of water for 20 minutes. Strain the
solution and mix in a 300 ml bottle of shampoo.
