1. Makeup Primer - This is a very popular item now, most
makeup lines carry one. It’s usually a creamy gel consistency meant to go
under your foundation. It doesn’t replace your skin
moisturizer though; you still
need to use that. Primer makes your foundation go
on smoother, not sink into fine lines, last longer, and helps it to not change
color or break down throughout the day. You don't need primer everyday. But for a more polished face or for special occasions it does
increase the performance of your foundation.
2. Eye shadow Base - You need
it any time you wear eye shadow, especially powder-based eye shadow. The powder
needs something to bind to, making the eye shadow show up more vibrantly and last
much longer. If you don’t use it, your eye shadow will last all of two minutes!
You can use a concealer as a shadow base. Just smooth on a sheer layer all over
your lid from your lash line to brow.
3. Concealer - You can’t just use the foundation
around the eyes instead of concealer. The reason is that foundation is not meant for
eye area,
and it’s not heavy enough to conceal dark circles - especially the dark
circles of a Mom.
4. Invisible Lip Liner - When you use a regular lip
liner and not only line the lips, but slightly fill them in with the liner, your
lipstick will last much longer, and it won’t bleed. This technique works
especially nice with lip gloss, because lip gloss vanish off
the lips. Liner will keep it in place and looking more vibrant and shiny. An
invisible lip liner is only used to help stop gloss from bleeding out of the lip
line. It won’t add any extra color boost to your gloss and keeps it sheer.
5. Brow Powder - If your brows are light or over-plucked,
filling them in will add a more structured look to your face. Brows are like the
picture frame for your eyes. You will look more polished and awake with your
brows done. Hands down, brow powder is easier to use and looks more natural than
a pencil.
6. Lip Plumpers - This is the newest trend in lip products
on the market. It’s usually a gloss you apply to the lips, and it creates a
slightly tingly sensation in order to increase the circulation in your lips,
making them look fuller. Some times it irritates so a dab of a light shimmery gloss right in the center of the
top and bottom lip will make them look fuller, without the pain.
7. Do you need make up every
time? If you are comfortable going bare
faced, then no, you don’t really need makeup. I admire women who can leave the
house without a stitch of blush or mascara.
8) Make up sample: Sample the makeup - not the germs! If you're trying out makeup
samples at the cosmetics counter, be sure to use a disposable applicator to
decrease the risk of contamination. For the same reason, you should never share
your friends' makeup either.
9) Light colored cosmetics: As you age you need to use both lighter colored
cosmetics and
lighter hair colors. These are more flattering to your skin tone and can keep
you looking and feeling younger.
10) Perfume free products: Perfume free products can sometimes have perfumes in them to
block the chemical smell of a cosmetic but they are labeled as preservatives.
The only topical preparation that does not need a preservative is pure petroleum
jelly.
11) Halloween make up: A lot of Halloween makeup
is thick and oily - which can lead to
ghoulish skin problems in the days after the big party! Try a small amount of
the product on your skin before Halloween to ensure that you don't have a
reaction.
12) Hypo allergenic: Hypo-allergenic does not mean non allergenic but rather it means
that the most common skin allergens have been removed form the skin
care product.
13) Cosmetic surgery: Make sure that you understand what you can expect after the
procedure as your skin recovers. After surgery, use only new cosmetics and clean
make-up brushes to prevent spreading any old lurking bacteria.
14) Lipid free cleanser: Looking for a makeup remover that won't aggravate dry skin or
eczema? Try a lipid-free cleanser - a liquid cleanser that does not contain any
fat. Usually applied to the skin and then wiped away or rinsed off with water,
this type of cleanser will leave a very fine moisturizing film on the skin.
Lipid-free cleansers are also appropriate for those with older, drier skin.
