Being a teen in today's world brings many
pressures from society to look good. The media is full of beautiful faces
that add to the stress of growing up. Don't let that undermine your
self-confidence! This is the most sensitive age. During this time there are
many confusions in the mind due to body changes. Hormonal glands are highly
active during this age, that is why the skin of teenagers are oily, especially
at the centre of the face, head and chin.
Natural Beauty Tip
What's a girl to do? There are many ways
to enhance your natural beauty and keep a practical skin care and
make-up
routine. These tips will help bring out the best in you, but remember, good
posture and a smile give a great first impression.
Beauty Tip For Teen
Teenagers have different skin care and
make-up needs than mature women. Skin care should actually start when they
are preteens, as early as the age of 10 or 11. Hormones start to kick in and
blemishes may begin to appear.
As you mature, your skin care needs will
change, as your skin does. Pay special attention to what products you are
using and if there are any undesirable affects taking place. What makes your
skin look radiant one month may cause blemishes and break-outs the next.
Skin Care For Teen
Mirrors with good high quality lighting are great for
examining your skin – although the first time you take a really good close
look it can be a loud and shocking personal alarm to take some fast action,
if you’ve neglected your skin. Beauty tip no 1 is to take a close look at
it at home and ensure before you do that you’ve done a good job of makeup
removal. This can especially be true in the summer, when the excess heat can
cause problems faster, if you've left any makeup on your face for an
extended period of time.
Mask Moisturizing
If your face is usually dry: Before you shower, apply a rich moisturizing
mask or thick layer of moisturizer. The moist heat helps the mask plump up
fine lines and creases temporarily.
Jelly Petroleum
Apply a heavy layer of petroleum jelly
to lips. At the end of the shower, use a warm damp washcloth to gently
massage off both treatments, and then use a naturally made loofah to bring
out a natural, healthy glow.
Oily Skin
If your skin is naturally oily: Use toner before and after you get out of
the shower, before, to clean off any oil that has risen to the surface
during sleep, and again when you get out to take off any oil that has
surfaced from the heat of the water. Sprinkle water on your face thrice a
day. To check the extra oil on the face clear the skin
with astringent
lotion or clear the face with tomato or lemon juice. It will decrease the
oil on the face and will improve the complexion.
Combination Skin
If you have combination skin, only apply toner masks to the "T"
area on your face, you could cause your cheeks to redden from applying toner
there.
Dab yellow or skin-tone concealer on blue under eye circles. Stay away from
lighter skin tone or white cover-ups. .

Moisturizer
At an early age, a light moisturizer may
be called for -- but do not use heavy creams made for dry skin. Choose a
product that is formulated for light skin care maintenance and does not
block your pores.
A heavy moisturizer will probably wreak
havoc and cause pimples. Try using a light moisturizer only once a day,
before bedtime. Any more often than that is probably be overdoing it.
Although you must buy a water-based moisturizer, you need to work out your
skin's needs. May be just plain water works for you.
Toner
Herbal beauticians say
that flower-based lotions like rose water or cucumber water {made by
diluting cucumber juice with water} can be sprayed on the face to tone and
refresh it. You need to cool these tonics in the fridge before use. Besides
this, makes a habit of splashing your face gently with water for instant
freshness. You can splash as many as 20 times. But do not use very hot or
very cold water on your skin. Steam face regularly to release dirt {5
minutes for dry skin and 10 minutes if it is oily}.
Facial Moisturizer
Pat dry with tissue and
moisturize. Moisturizers should be used damp on the skin. This seals in the
water and helps skin to hold the moisture better. Make sure that you are
adequately hydrated - at least 8 glasses of water a day even more when you
are outside.
Acne
Acne is a #1 skin care concern for
teens. Keep your face and
hair clean, wash your
hands frequently, and
keep them away from your face. There are many products available on
the market today for acne prevention and cures, and they are much more
effective than years ago.
Beauty Make Up Tip
Most teenage girls begin wearing light make-up around the ages of 12-13
as they become more aware of their appearance. As a teen, your make-up
should look natural and enhance your facial features. Don't overdo it,
this
will only make you look silly. With a few simple, inexpensive
products, you can play up your finest features -- and look great!
Natural Make Up
Keep your make-up light for school.
You don't need to use make-up on every facial feature you have! Mix and
match to find out what looks best on you.
Teen Make Up
For parties, you may want to add a
little more make-up to enhance your features. Make sure you blend it in
well with your fingers or a cosmetics brush and check it in bright light
when you're finished.
Foundation
Foundation for teens is not necessary.
While it can clog your pores, it will also look overdone.
Concealed
Skip the
foundation and use a concealer on your blemishes only. Lightly dust on some
loose powder over your entire face to even out your skin tone, control oil,
and set the concealer.
Freckle
Don't try to hide your freckle. You may
not appreciate them, but they are part of you. Exposure to sunlight makes
freckles darker so avoiding the sun and using a sunscreen will keep them in
check. As you get older, they can fade -- and then they won't be an issue.
Eye Make-up
You may not be interested in eye
shadow until you're a little older. If so, that's great. When you do
begin wearing it, keep it light and use any trendy metallics and
sparkles sparingly.
They can flake off into your
eyes and cause
irritation.
Eye Shadow
Eye shadow does not have to match your eyes, however earth
tones (tan, brown, gray) are very complimentary to blue, brown and
hazel eyes.
When you begin using mascara, brown
works best for both blondes and brunettes. Black is probably too
harsh, especially in the daytime. If you think brown isn't dark
enough, try brownish-black.
Waterproof mascara may be necessary
for sports and outdoor activities in warm weather. It stays on longer
and doesn't run -- but it's harder to take off. It's best to keep
make-up to a minimum and you won't have to worry about undesired
smearing.
Liquid Liner
If you're going to use an eyeliner,
a pencil liner looks more natural than liquid liner. Learn to apply it
with a steady hand for straight lines, and blot it with a tissue if
you get it on too dark.
Blush
Liquid and stick blush are popular choices
for teens because they glide on smoothly and blend in well. Pinks and
peaches compliment almost any skin tone. Apply to the apple of your cheeks
and blend outwards, towards your hairline.
Lips
For luscious lips, lip gloss does
the trick. If you want to add some color to your lips for a nighttime
look, try a lipstick in a sheer color. For extra shine, put the lip
gloss on over your lipstick.
Lip Balm
Always have lip balm handy for chapped
lips.
Make Tip Up
As with any make-up, blending is the key. Check your
make-up in daylight if
possible and don't be afraid to swipe off any access with a tissue.
If you ever experience any
skin irritation, quit using make-up
immediately until you find out what the
problem is. Consult your dermatologist for the best remedy.
Best Concealer
You pat concealer in, you
never rub it in When applying concealer, put a bit on the pad of your middle
finger and pat it in. Never rub. Got acne? Pat the concealer on top of it.
Eye make Up Tip
If you are wearing heavy eye
makeup, go for nude lips with just a bit of gloss. Prefer the drama of dark
lipstick? Keep face light (stay away from heavy blush) and wear only
mascara on
your eyes and a light eye
shadow. Don't heavily line your eyes. Play up both and
you'll look like a harsh & artificial.
If you choose to play up your eyes, you can be as dramatic as you want with
eyeliner, shadow & mascara. But stick to gloss or a light lipstick shade for
your lips. You want your eyes to 'pop.' But you don't want them competing with
your lips.
Lip Liner
If it's your lips you want to accentuate, paint on a strong shade & line just
your upper lashes with a couple strokes of mascara to finish your eyes. If your
eyelids have bluish lines, you can mask that with face powder or concealer, but
stay away from colored shadows -- the lighter, the better.
Hair
Homemade conditioner for hair
*Mix one tablespoon vinegar in one cup of water. Wash your hair
with this
water.
*Never become impatient while combing the hair.
*Use the comb with good bristles or proper hair brush.
HAIR HIGHLIGHT
Natural hair is always hot If you have super dark hair, lighten
your look by going a shade darker or getting lighter highlights. Blonde? Try
highlights, especially around your face. We see too many teens lightening their
hair several shades and the look is super tacky, not super fabulous. The trick
is to let people assume you were born with sun-kissed hair, not that you gave
yourself a bad dye job from a bottle.
Layer Hair Cut
You can never go wrong with layers Layers are great for any hair type:
Super curly, straight or wavy. It makes thin hair appear thicker, curly hair
appear manageable and wavy hair appear just-got-back-from-the-beach sexy.
Teen Hairstyles
There's nothing sexier than long,
layered waves. To get them, windhair AROUND the barrel of a large curling iron.
Reverse direction for each 2-inch section (wind up for one, down for another).
Spilt ends have a tendency to get caught on the cotton and your
tossing and turning will actually pull the caught pieces out of your head. So
little by little, if you were wearing a cotton scarf to protect your hair
while you sleep, you may actually be making it worse! It is highly recommended
that you either wrap your hair up in silk or satin scarves at night or sleep on
silk or satin pillows.
Vaseline
Skip the bottled cleaners: Vaseline is
the best eye makeup remover hands down. It's also great for fixed chapped, scaly
lips. Slather on a bunch of Vaseline, then use a toothbrush to massage lips.
Wipe the excess off on a tissue. Your lips will be smooth and soft.
Beauty Product
Spend money on key beauty products Not sure what to splurge on and what
to save on? Here's our Golden Rules: Don't scrimp on eye shadow, moisturizer,
powder, self-tanner or lipstick. There's a big difference in quality for these
products.
Unfortunately, even the best ones smell.
Your best bet is to apply self-tanner a good 24 hours before an important event
and take a shower (don't loofah) to wash off any smell.
Nail
Don't let nails go. Not into
manicures and pedicures? No worries. Just
make sure to keep nails short and clean. If you do want to paint them, don't
keep the polish on until it all chips away. People tend to judge others by the
care they put into their feet and hands.
KEEP YOUR SKIN HYDRATED
The skin is not just a
simple flat sheet. It is made of several layers, one on top of the
other.
The topmost layer of the skin is really quite tough and thin. It is our
“hide”. This layer is also known as the epidermis. It is subjected to a
lot of wear and tear. As it is constantly being worn down, it is also
replaced. The epidermis plays a vital role in preventing excessive loss
of moisture from the body.
Drinking at least six to eight glasses of water is essential to keep
your skin hydrated.
PIMPLES
Personal hygiene
is very essential. It is one of the factors that determines how fast the
skin ages and how good it looks.
Wash your face regularly – this has to be most basic and fundamental
skin care tips for teens. Inadequate washing can clog up the pores of
the skin causing pimples and acne. Dip the fresh leaves of neem in water
at night. Wash your face with this water in the morning. It will check the
pimples on the face. Washing the face regularly goes a
long way in maintaining skin hygiene.
SKIN CARE
PRODUCT
Knowing the
right way to care for your skin is quite a challenge in these days of
skin care product explosion.
Is it better to use a cream-based facial cleanser
or oil-based one?
Would a foaming wash be better?
Should one use a facial toners at all?
Should a moisturizer be used if the face is very oily?
What about facial scrubs or facial masks?
Do SPF15 foundations and lip balms actually work?
First analyze your skin and find out your skin type. Choose the correct
skin care product according to your skin type.
To
help take the mystery out of teen-age skin
care, here are some recommended
products to maintain, or bring skin to, optimal condition.
Normal
Skin
·
A gentle, non-comedogenic cream or gel cleanser.
·
An alcohol-free toner used after nighttime cleansing to prevent overdrying
the skin.
·
A daytime moisturizer with an SPF 15.
·
An oil-free nighttime moisturizer.
·
A once-a-week masque or gentle, microbead exfoliator to remove dead skin
cell buildup and help reveal healthy, new skin. Since these are treatments
and not cleansers, use on clean, damp skin and follow directions
accordingly.
Oily Skin
·
A gentle, non-comedogenic gel or foam based cleanser. For continuous
breakouts, choose one with 1% or 2% salicylic acid (a beta-hydroxy acid
that deep cleans pores without over drying. Choose percentage according to
skin’s tolerance and effectiveness).
·
An alcohol-free toner used after cleansing in the morning and evening.
·
An oil-free daytime moisturizer with an SPF 15. Many teens with breakouts
are hesitant to use a daytime moisturizer but this step is crucial since
sun exposure can aggravate acne and lead to discoloration.
·
An oil-free nighttime moisturizer. Again, many teens don’t want to add
“more oil” to their skin, but all skin types need moisture, not oil.
·
Acne spot treatment as needed. Choose a botanical based treatment (many
are now incorporating plant extracts) since they’ll balance the pH of
skin and prevent overdrying.
·
A once-a-week microbead exfoliator or acne masque.
. Natural or non alkaline soap is beneficial for the oily skin.
Acne
Medication
Note:
If salicylic acid is not effective, an over-the-counter acne
vitamin
supplement may be added. If neither is effective, switch to products
containing benzoyl peroxide. If neither of
these are effective, see a dermatologist.
For All Skin Types, Please Avoid:
·
Picking at breakouts.
·
Using harsh products such as rubbing alcohol as a toner.
·
Keeping devices such as cell phones clean and sanitized. Avoid touching
skin after touching surfaces such as computer keyboards or door handles.
WEAR
SUNSCREEN
By
approximately 16-17 years, teens should incorporate an eye cream and a lip
balm/treatment with SPF along with their regular routine. All age groups
should use an oil-free sunscreen or sunblock with SPF 30 for outdoor
sports or activities. Skincare routines may vary due to each person’s
unique chemistry.
Mix calamine lotion in zinc oxide, it will work as a sunscreen lotion.
By
devoting a few extra minutes each day to a complete skincare routine,
teens can gently ease through these erratic years with confidence.
FACIAL
CLEANSER
Excessive face washing
with harsh soaps or cleansers can damage the skin, by stripping it of
its natural oils. Using a mild face wash preferably with a moisturizing
effect.
ACNE
PIMPLES
Acne is a common
skin problem, especially among teens. This is because hormonal changes
cause the sebaceous glands to be over-active. The excessive sebum
production causes the skin’s pores to be clogged and infection can
result.
Do not be too troubled if you have acne as this is a common phase of an
adolescence’s life. Read more about acne, pimples and
blackheads. Find
out how you can keep it under control.
There are many different acne treatments available. There are many
different types of acne medicines in the market. Some are available over
the counter while others require a doctor’s prescription.
If your skin condition is very bad or do not respond to over the counter
medication, do see a dermatologist about it.
If you're struggling with serious acne, get serious about
your skin care strategy. Ordinary skin care products contain hydrogen
peroxide, alcohols and plenty of fragrances (such as camphor or
eucalyptus) that can irritate skin without putting a stop to bad
breakouts. Acne can do more than impact your social life: it impacts self
confidence. Bad acne can also lead to scarring (but if you already have
acne scars, take heart; you can have them erased by laser resurfacing).
For real acne-prone skin care, use a product that's dermatologist created
and tested; serious skin care for solving big problems like acne. The
local drugstore's toner or acne fighter lotion probably contains alcohol,
added fragrance and color and all sorts of things that will irritate skin
without truly treating it.
SUNSCREEN
Experts say the most
important thing you can do for your skin is to wear sunscreen every day,
whatever your age. Skin aging that arises from exposure to the sun is
called photo-aging.
Photo-aging refers to skin changes induced by exposure to invisible rays
of sunlight, such as ultraviolet rays, over a period of time.
Seriously photo-aged skin is dry, yellow, rough and deeply wrinkled.
There could be dark pigmentations or white spots.
A good sunscreen is absolutely essential to protect the skin from the
harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays. Even those working indoors, if they
sit near a window, should wear sunscreen, as glass does not protect one
against UVA rays.
For sunscreens, a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 is
recommended for daily use, though it is best to consult a dermatologist
to decide the appropriate strength for specific skin types. If you are a
sun seeker, then choose one with a high SPF of 50 – 60.
Doctors say that people shy away from sunscreens because they don’t like
the oily feeling. Some sunscreens can give you a white sheen like in
Chinese wayang. But there are sunscreens which are non-oily. The
non-oily ones usually have the ingredient Mexoryl XL.
Many products protect your skin against UVB rays only. You should look
for ingredients that protect against UVA as well. These are avobenzone,
titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and mexoryl.
Many women use foundations and compact powders with SPF 15 to protect
their skin. This may not be enough, because it is a very thin layer.
They need to use a sunscreen as a base and apply the powder on top of it
for adequate protection.
.
CLOTHES
As for clothes, keep
it in your comfort level. Bear this in mind: if you are wearing a bra or
undershirt, don't let the straps hang out. It doesn't look cool; it just
looks sloppy. If you are wearing a short shirt, check in the mirror to
see if your stomach hangs out of the bottom. Otherwise, wear something a
little bit longer. Also, if your pants are likely to slip, wear a belt.
Belts are totally hip now!
* The main point is to keep the makeup light, and the clothes clean cut.
Start trying to
tie outfits together with accessories. It's good to try new things with
your makeup and clothes. But when you try the new things, make sure it
looks good on you, not just in the picture or at the store. Check out
different stores, and find out if there is a style that suits you.
Your beauty keywords during the teen ages are "Soft and
subtle", not only in makeup but, in body care, hair care, hair style
and even wardrobe, always keep in mind that colors that work best for all
uses and in all occasions are those closest to their natural skin tone and
all spectrum of pastel colors.
This does not mean that you cannot use an incredible red velvet dress,
just decide when the best time for it is. Learning and understanding a
little bit of the importance of the colors we wear in our clothes and in
our makeup’s, may help you to best decide when you need something more
than the regular natural-looking girl.
Fashion and beauty experts classify color according to seasons; Spring
as bright, fresh and lively colors, Summer as clear, contrast and bold
colors, Autumn, as soft, cool, slightly grayed colors, and Winter as deep,
dark and muted colors. Additionally, every color has its own
"vibration" representing how our emotions respond to the
different tones:
Pink is soft, delicate, feminine, innocent, and delicious.
Red is vital, exciting, energetic, cheerful, and sexual, but also
angry, aggressive, alerting, warning,
White is clean, pure, young, safe, and simple, the color associated
with health and the teen ages.
Blue is cool, quiet, serene, calming, but also sleepy and sad.
Gray is neutral, subtle, dignified, and well-informed, but also gloomy
and cold.
Green is fresh, loving, greedy, restful, calm and successful.
Black is mysterious, glamorous and sophisticated, but also severe,
glum, depressing, and deadly.
Brown is warm, earthy, and drab.
Yellow is alive, optimistic, joyful, clear, sunny, bright, hopeful, and
positive.
Violet is rich, subtle, stately, and royal, but also sexy, passionate,
impressive, and alone.
Orange is new, warm, happy, cheerful, motivated, and garish.
In general terms you may want to look very sexy and attractive in
special occasions, but in the teen ages hot colors may help you to look
the same sensual, daring, and flashy, that wild and vulgar. Remember that
when in doubt, your mom may be your best adviser, not your enemy.
Try establishing
your own hairstyle without looking like everyone else. For example, if
everyone has long, layered hair with no bangs, try light wispy bangs and
a shorter, layered look.
You might be wearing tighter jeans now and probably starting to get
concerned with impressing the guys, so it's safe to try out more mature
styles such as a sleek leather blazer, or lower cut necklines. If you
are happy with your sports bra, that is totally OK. But it's safe now to
check out the actual bra department and wear something that makes you
feel pretty - like lace.
BEAUTY
CARE Facial
Skin Tip
Some people can confuse the physical transformation that comes with
putting makeup on, with a sort of personal transformation, but again this
is not the truth. When you feel beautiful inside, you will be more
attractive to others on the outside. Makeup will not do it.
FETISH
FOOT
Your feet also need adequate care this season. Keeping both hands and
feet clean with a liberal use of soap and water (followed by a
moisturizer) is a grooming must. Soaking feet and hands helps to get rid
of fatigue, more so if you add a pinch of salt to the water you use.
This softens the dry, dead skin around your soles, easing its removal.
Soak feet for 15-20 minutes once a week. Rub the shells of lemon on the
black skin of elbows and knees. Than wash the elbows and knees with cold
water. Apply the moisturising lotion.
Exercise
Simple and regular exercise not only makes the body feel light but also relaxes
the adolescent girls with the troubles of menstrual cycle.
