What is acne?

Around three-quarters of all teenagers and young adults suffer from acne. However, men and women in their 30s and 40s can also suffer.
Acne affects mostly teenagers; however, the disease can affect both men and women into their 40's.  While acne usually clears up after several years even if untreated, you need not wait to outgrow it. Untreated acne can leave lifelong scars. While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. When severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring.  It has been considered acne to be 75% inherited from one's parents, 12% caused from not cleansing the face and 12% caused from diet.
Cause of acne vulgarism/Cause back acne*

at Acne vulgarism is caused when the open pores on the face, neck, back, chest and arms become plugged with to much oil (sebum) production made by the oil glands. Increased oil (sebum) is produced particularly during adolescence when the sex hormones are elevated and the oil glands have increased in size.  As the pores become plugged with the excess oil and loose skin, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and even deeper lumps, (cysts or nodules) occur. The oil is irritating to the surrounding skin causing redness seen in the pimples and pustules. Bacteria can also more readily grow in this environment further aggraving the acne.

Cause of acne*

Acne is a skin condition caused by over activity of the glands that secrete oily substances on to the skin. The blackheads and spots usually occur on the face, where the greatest number of these oil-producing "sebaceous" glands exist. The back, chest and shoulders can also be affected.

ACNE TREATMENT *

Home use peels: Several over-the-counter peels contain papaya enzymes or glycolic acid. These peels lightly exfoliate the skin and are safe for weekly use.

Witch hazel acne*/Use for witch hazel/Witch hazel tree

Reduce the spread of bacterial infection: Using an astringent such as witch hazel or apple cider vinegar to disinfect the skin significantly reduces the presence of bacteria on the face. This reduction limits skin inflammation and the likelihood of a pimple developing.

Acne Benzoyl Peroxide Treatment*

Benzoyl Peroxide (BP): Benzoyl Peroxide acts  as an antibacterial agent against P. acnes, a bacteria, and it is most effective against inflammatory acne consisting of papules, pustules and cysts. BP causes mild desquamation to scaliness, peeling and cracking. The drying does not cause wrinkles.  Start with the lower strength (2.5% or 5%) preparations first. The stronger strengths (5% & 10%) can be irritating. A gel is usually more drying and stronger than a lotion or a cream. A BP wash that is put on briefly then washed off is a good way to start as a BP gel, lotion or cream that is left on the skin can bleach clothing or the sheets on the bed.

Salicylic acid acne*

Salicylic Acid: a beta hydroxy acid is a mild acid that works as a keratolytic agent (removes the tops layers of skin and opens clogged pores). Salicylic acid is both safe and efficacious for treatment of acne vulgaris, oily skin, textural changes, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in patients of most skin types. Start with a 1-2% preparation.

Acid acne glycolic*

Glycolic Acid: is an alpha hydroxy acid that is derived from the sugar cane plant and is compatible with the skin due to its molecular structure. It acts as a keratolytic (removes top layers of skin and opens clogged pores.) It has been shown in clinical studies to improve acne and the hyperpigmentation that is present with acne.  Start with the lower strength (2.5% or 5%) preparations first.  Strengths above 5% may be irritating. A gel is usually more drying and stronger than a lotion or a cream.

Free fatty acids*: Free fatty acids can irritate the skin and provoke acne eruptions. Reducing intake of foods containing hydrolyzed fats will improve fat metabolism.

Skin inflammation*: A strong immune system serves as a buffer against inflammation. Stress reducing activities such as exercising, eating a well-balanced diet and sleeping well boosts the immune system.

Food with zinc:*A diet supplemented with B-Complex, zinc and vitamins C and E likewise enhances the effectiveness of the immune system.

Acne cleanser:*Wash your face with warm water twice a day. Washing too often may actually make your acne worse. There are many cleansers, select the one for you that is right for your skin type, whether it be dry, oily, or sensitive.

Acne make tip up: To keep the pores from becoming plugged REMOVE MAKE UP EVERY NIGHT. Avoid removing makeup by roughly wiping the make up off.

Acne scalp shampoo*: Oil from your hair can make acne worse particularly around your hairline so shampoo the scalp regularly.

Skin Care Acne Cosmetic*/Cosmetic Acne/ Non acnegenic: Work with oil free and water based cosmetics.  Use products that say they are "non-comedogenic" (should not cause whiteheads or blackheads) or "non-acnegenic" (should not cause acne). Cosmetics that have a light green tint may help hide the redness of acne. When using hair spray cover your face. Hair spray may plug the pores.

Acne cure diet/Diet to clear acne/Acne free diet*:  Diet is controversial; however, many dermatologists feel certain foods can aggravate acne for some people.  Excessive dairy products, soft drinks or other foods with sugar, excessive nuts and oily food can aggravate acne in some people.

Sunlight: A tan can mask your acne, but the benefits are temporary. Since sunlight ages the skin and can cause skin cancer, you should not sunburn, "bake in the sun" or use sunlamps. Oil-free sunscreen, such as a gel sunscreen or water based sunscreen should be chosen.

Home remedy for acne: *The orange peel is valuable in the treatment of acne. The peel, pounded well with water on a piece of stone, should be applied to the affected areas.

Best acne treatment:* The lemon has also proved beneficial in removing pimples and acne . It should be applied regularly.

How to get rid of acne?:*A teaspoonful of coriander juice, mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder, is another effective home remedy for pimples and blackheads. The mixture should be applied to the face after thoroughly washing it, every night before retiring.

Acne scar treatment:*If you want to reduce the outbreak of scars that occurs on your skin, then you should consider avoiding certain products that contain grains of any sort - for instance cereals and bread. This seems to reduce the outbreak.

Acne scar removal:*Putting an ice pack on your spot for 10 minutes really compresses it and makes it easier to cover up.

Both of these have been linked to making the skin better able to deal with and stop acne from being a problem and therefore definitely something worth trying

Acne adult female treatment/Acne in adult woman/Adult acne treatment woman/Acne adult cause female:*Acne can also be linked to a woman’s menstrual cycle. Some women find that they break out into pimples just before the onset of their menses. Some women who have erratic menstrual cycles and do not ovulate properly often develop acne as a result of increased androgen production by the ovaries.

Birth control pill adult acne:*The reason why some women feel that their skin improves after going on the birth control pill is because the estrogen in the pills reduces skin sensitivity to androgens.

Pregnancy acne:* A high level of estrogen in pregnant women also makes for healthier skin.

Adult acne:*Adult acne may be linked to other skin problems like tiny broken blood vessels (telangectasia) or inflamed eyelids (blepharitis).

Acne control:*You can disguise a pimple with eye-redness reliever drops. Apply a few drops to Q-tip and then hold on pimple for about ten to fifteen seconds.

Tea tree oil acne treatment/Tea tree oil for acne scar: *At night, mix a packet of fast-acting yeast with enough tea tree oil to make a paste. Tea tree oil comes from Australia and is antiseptic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory. Spread over emerging pimple, and cover with a bandage. Leave on overnight. Yeast causes the pimple to rise out of skin, while tree oil attacks it. It should be gone in the morning.

Acne blemish treatment/Acne blemish home remedy/Acne blemish control*: soak a cotton ball in warm salt water. Press on top of blemish for three minutes to dissolve the top.

Remove blackheads:* Remove blackheads gently so you don’t scar your skin. Combine 1/4 cup boiling water with one teaspoon Epsom salt and three drops of iodine. Did You Know

French Clay has excellent absorbent powers that works to remove oils and toxins from your skin. It stimulates the skin, revitalises the complexion and tightens your pores. French Clay is excellent for problem skin.

Fresh bay leaves are very strongly aromatic, but also quite bitter. High-quality bay leaves are easily recognized not only by their strong aroma, but also by their bright green colour. The greener the colour, the better the quality. The essential oil from Bay leaves (0.8 to 3%) contains mostly 1,8 cineol (50%); furthermore, eugenol, acetyl eugenol, methyl eugenol, a- and ß-pinene, phellandrene, linalool, geraniol and terpineol are found.

Distilled Water - It is a process whereby the water is boiled, and the pure steam is re-condensed to water again, leaving behind all heavy metals and contaminants, and killing all bacteria and viruses.

All Natural Man Skin Care/Man skin care tip/Advice for man on skin care

Most men develop some kind of necessary skin care cleansing routine in the teenage years. Acne, blemishes, and the attentions of the opposite sex are usually the reason for such routines. However, many men ignore the toning and moisturizing steps that can improve both the appearance and feel of facial skin. Skin care products and routines may seem likely stuff for women only, but men have skin too. And just like women, men can do wonders for their skin by simply learning a few basic principles of skin care. For starters, men need to understand what type of skin they have, how to care for their skin, and how to develop a skin care routine they can live with.

Different Skin Type /Determine skin type

Before you can select skin care products, you need to know what type of skin you have. Although women often learn these differences as soon as they can hold a bar of soap, many men find the question perplexing. Skin is skin, right? Wrong! Your skin can be normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination. Here’s a primer for men on deciphering your skin type.

Normal Skin: If you’ve never had problems with oily skin or dry skin, it’s likely that you have “normal” skin. The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even. If you’ve never given a second thought to your skin before, your skin type is probably normal.

Oily Skin: As its name implies, oily skin is slightly to moderately greasy. If you have oily skin, your pores are medium to large in size and prone to blockage.
Help oily skin: You probably have problems with pimples, blackheads, whiteheads. Oily skin is usually thicker and firmer than normal skin and it’s less sensitive to environmental damage.

Dry Skin: Dry skin characteristically feels tight and itchy.
Care dry skin: Winter is especially rough on this skin type. Dry skin is usually thinner than normal skin and may even be slightly rough to the touch. If you have dry skin, you may have noticed that your skin is also easily irritated.

Sensitive Skin: Men with sensitive skin are usually the ones who actually know their skin type.
Sensitive skin care: Sensitive skin is prone to rashes and breakouts from any kind of irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap. Be very careful about the skin care products you choose if you have sensitive skin. Avoid products with dyes, perfumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients that may irritate your skin.

Combination Skin: This skin type is used to specifically describe facial skin that has both dry and oily patches. Most commonly, combination skin exhibits an oily forehead, nose and chin with dry skin on the cheeks and around the eyes. It is not uncommon for these oily zones to be reversed. If you have this skin type, you will need to purchase skin care products made especially for combination skin.

Basic Skin Care Routine

Now that you know what kind of skin you have, and you’ve purchased skin care products to accommodate your skin type, how do you know what to do with them. Many men have a fitness regime, a financial plan, and a daily schedule. But mention a skin care routine and they run for the hills. Skin care is not just for women. In fact, men who exercise regularly are prone to having more skin problems than women who do the same. That’s because you’re stretching your skin, not cleansing it properly, and not protecting it from elements such as sweat, sun, and wind. But don’t worry; taking care of your skin doesn’t have to mean spending hours in the bathroom. It just means establishing a simple routine to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

  1. Face Washing: Sure you take a shower in the morning before work, but do you take time to wash your face as well? (with products made for your skin type?) Gently wash your face twice a day.
Facial cleanser: In the morning, facial cleansing will remove any perspiration and debris from sleeping and at the end of the day it will get rid of sweat and pollutants that have accumulated on your face throughout the day.

  2. Tone tone: If you have dry or sensitive skin, skip this step. Toners are usually alcohol based and may irritate these skin types. But normal, oily, and combination skin can benefit from the extra cleansing and pH restoration of a alcohol free toning product.

  3. How to moisturize skin: Hydrate your face with a quality, skin-type appropriate moisturizer
Face moisturize: And if you spend any time in the sun at all, choose a moisturizer that includes a sun block of at least SPF 15. This will protect your skin from the sun and save you the hassle of remembering to apply another product.

  4.   Shaving face: Men with acne who shave should try both an electric and a safety razor to see which  is     more comfortable.
Shaving beard: If you use a safety razor, soften your beard thoroughly with soap and warm water    before applying shaving cream. To avoid nicking pimples, shave as lightly as possible. Shave only  when necessary and always use a sharp blade and a good quality
shaving cream.

 Face Wash

Before you attempt the other acne treatment techniques you must be sure that you are currently using the proper washing routine. Keeping your face clean requires that you wash it two times per day, three times at the most. You must be very careful to avoid overdoing it. Skin must maintain the proper pH levels to remain healthy. Over washing will make your face dry and irritated causing more breakouts. Many times individuals will vigorously scrub their skin when they wash it. I do not recommend this because such treatment will only serve to irritate the skin causing more breakouts.

Note, acne is not caused by "dirty" skin it is the result of clogged pores infected with bacteria. Therefore, washing alone does not prevent acne. Washing is no mystery treatment, in fact washing alone will not prevent acne. It simply serves to remove dirt and oil at the surface level. Although washing alone may not prevent acne, the wrong type of washing can aggravate acne making it worse.

Follow these recommendations: wash your face by gently rotating your facial cleanser lathered hands on your face. I do not recommend face cloths as they may irritate the skin unless you are using specialized cloth like a micro fiber cloth that specifically made for your face. Rinse well with warm water. Using a clean soft towel, gently pat dry your face.

You can lessen acne by not washing your face with a facial cleanser all the time. Instead, wipe your face down with pure warm water every morning until there is no oil. Use a toner or an astringent, and then apply your acne medication. This has helped to have clearer skin.

Exercise

Exercise is good for your overall health. It will increase your blood circulation and bring more oxygen to your major organs including the skin. The benefits you get from exercise are not only physical but to a large extent mental benefits.

Just make sure that you wash your face after an intense exercise session to remove any oil or sweat on your skin that may harbor bacteria, resulting in more acne.

Ice Cubes

Ice cubes to the rescue! Aestheticians as well as some other individuals have reported success from this technique. The trick is to try and catch the pimple before it fully arrives on the surface of the skin. As soon as you feel a pimple forming, ice it! Take an ice cube wrapped in saran wrap and place on the skin portion where you feel a pimple about to form. Hold it there for a few minutes. Avoid prolonged holding as you can get frostbite skin. Perform the above steps three times daily. This technique is effective only on newly forming pimples and rarely useful for existing pimples.

Acne Myth
myth fact
1. Acne is curable

There is no cure for acne. However, through the consistent use of treatment and remedies acne can be controlled or prevented.

2. Sun is great for acne

Sun may temporarily mask your acne, tighten up pores, or dry up the oil glands. However, the sun will also damage your follicular walls clogging your pores. Resulting in more acne that may not surface for 3-4 weeks after your sun exposure.

3. Washing your face more often will help clear up acne

Facial blemishes are not caused by dirt. Contrary to what you may have seen in commercials, pores do not get blocked from the top down. Rather, an entire pore collapses from deep within the skin, starting acne formation. Frequent washing does nothing to prevent this. Over-washing is actually irritating, and excess irritation can worsen acne. A washcloth can aggravate this situation further. Use bare hands to wash and only wash twice a day.

4. Pizza, chocolate, and other junk food make me break out

Does chocolate really make you breakout with acne? What about oily foods? Prevailing wisdom in the dermatology community is that diet and acne are not related. Of course science is never a 100% reliable enterprise. But at this time, there is no evidence that chocolate, sugar, oil, milk, seafood, or any other food causes acne. Some people absolutely insist that a certain food causes acne for them, or that a specific acne diet works for them. In this case, doctors sometimes recommend that they avoid that food or follow that diet. Regarding chocolate specifically, several studies have been performed, and the answer to "does chocolate cause pimples?" is a resounding "No".

Acne Fact

1. Bacteria is common culprit to all forms of acne.

2. Hey! Your not alone, an estimated eighty percent of the people suffer from some form of acne in their life

3. Did you know there are many varieties of acne? In fact, there are over fifty types of acne. However, the most common form is acne vulgaris.

4. Although many individuals believe the sun makes their acne better, the reality is ultraviolet rays that penetrate the skin's surface can damage the follicles, closing them off and triggering acne two to four weeks after sun exposure.

5. It takes three to four weeks for a pimple to form, therefore, what you ate yesterday does not affect your skin. Hormones and your genes are the main causes of acne.

6. Spot-treating of acne does NOT work. The entire face and involved area must be treated daily in order to prevent new acne lesions.

7. Acne is not curable. It is very treatable. The sooner you begin an individualized treatment program, the faster you have great-looking skin.

8. Most people do NOT outgrow their acne. This, like any other disease, must be treated. You should not ignore this condition.

9. Scrubbing and vigorous washing make acne WORSE. Loofah sponges, Buff Puffs, scrubs containing particles, and strips applied to the skin are all irritating and make acne worse.

10. To remove all of the oil produced by your body, you would have to wash your face every minute. Excessive washing actually causes the body to produce more oil which makes acne worse.

11. Stress does not causes acne, but it certainly can make it worse. Stress can aggravate hormones, which may affect the process of producing new acne lesions.

12. Diet does not contribute to acne in most individuals. Certain foods may cause flare-ups of acne.

13. Acne breakouts are NOT caused by dirt clogging the pores. Acne is caused by hormones stimulating the oil glands, plugging of the pores by dead skin cells, bacteria living in the pores breaking down the oil and causing inflammation.

Touching

Perhaps one of the most often overlooked remedies. Stop putting your hands by your face! I am often guilty of this resting my hand on the side of my head while reading. Also rubbing or bracing your chin is another common problem when thinking. Avoid rubbing, touching, or itching your skin with your hands. Your hands contain a lot of bacteria that can cause acne flare-ups. Also be careful of the telephone. Clean them often with rubbing alcohol because they sometimes come in contact with the face causing more acne.

It is probably one of the most difficult things to avoid since much of the hand to face contact throughout the day we are unconscious of. Make it a habit to avoid hand contact and be conscious of it during the day to avoid bacteria.

Sleep acne

Research has indicated that our hormone levels increase when our sleep patterns are disturbed. Increased hormone levels results in increased sebum production which leads to... yep you guessed it--more acne. It is during our time of sleep that our skin cells begin to be nourished and regenerating takes place the most as the body repairs itself from a long day. Get to bed earlier! Go to bed at least 1 or 2 hours early than you usually do and in a couple of days you will notice your face getting clearer and more healthy.

Individuals have also reported severe acne outbreaks due to prolonged sleep deprivation.

Healthy diet for acne treatment

Specific foods have not been proven to affect acne. However it is important to note that good nutrition helps the body maintain healthy skin. There have been some scientists suggesting that caffeine products and excessively salty foods aggravate acne in certain individuals. If you notice that certain foods aggravate your acne then the best advice is to limit or avoid them in your diet.

Acne diet: So what foods should you look into? Well, examine foods high in iodine. Watch out for multi-vitamins (some contain iodine). Be aware of some junk foods such as potato chips, corn chips, etc. Keep your diet low in fat and sugar. Eating a properly balanced diet ensures that your body gets the proper nutrients and therefore promotes healthy skin.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. A high fiber, low-fat diet is excellent in promoting overall general health.

Stress related acne

Stress is something that needs to be reduced in your life since it tends to aggravate acne in many people. I have experienced high levels of stress during finals weeks at school resulting in increased levels of acne.

So, how do you lower your stress levels. Aside from eliminating things that cause you stress in your life, look into relaxation techniques. Relaxation techniq are great for stressful situations. You may even look into practicing meditation or yoga to further reduce your stress levels.

Water acne / Acne drinking water*

Water helps the body flush out toxins and transport nutrients to the body. Drinking water puts less strain on the skin organ to flush out toxins. The recommended amount of water you should drink is at least half your bodyweight in ounces of water( a 140lb. individual should drink 70 ounces/day ). While water alone will not eliminate your acne it will greatly assist your skin in remaining healthy and that will be one portion of the pie in fighting acne.

Acne facial cleanser*

Acne cleansers remove accumulated oil, makeup, sweat and dirt from the surface of your skin. This makes it easier for your skin to absorb topical acne treatments. However, excessive use of acne cleansers can also lead to irritated and dry skin. Read the label and use acne cleansers only once or twice a day

Red marks on skin*
The pimple's gone - why is there a red mark? You may notice a bright red mark where the pimple used to be. This is a post-inflammatory change in your skin, which usually disappears in six to twelve months. Squeezing your pimples or picking at scabs will lengthen the time required for the mark to disappear
Clear acne*
You may want to seek out acne cleansers containing salicyclic acid, which is effective in breaking down keratin in blackheads and removing dead skin cells, helping to prevent clogged pores.
Cause of acne*

Common factors that cause our pores to become clogged are cosmetics, hair products and hats, as well as humidity, sweating and prolonged contact with damp clothing.

Acne tip*

Some of the most common acne medications, including tetracycline and the retinoids, can make your skin extremely sensitive to the sun. If you're using these acne medications, wear sun-protective clothing and apply sunscreen before venturing outside.

Make up for acne*

While it is true that the creams, oils and greases in cosmetics can aggravate acne by irritating or blocking pores, many cosmetics and foundations will not provoke flare-ups. Look for products labeled "non-acnegenic" or "non-comedogenic" for best results.

Best acne product*

If you have oily skin or are prone to acne, you'll want to choose oil-free or non-comedogenic cosmetics. Oil-free cosmetics contain little or no isopropyl myristate, isopropyl esters, oleic acid, stearic acid, petrolatum and lanolin

Acne skin care treatment product*

Topical creams do double duty: they'll not only improve your acne, they'll also encourage collagen production and help smooth out very fine acne scarring.

Acne hide scar*

If you're using cosmetics to cover up your acne, make sure you're not using products (such as oil-based foundations) that may actually make your acne worse. Use oil-free cosmetics wherever possible.

Hair acne*

Long hair that sweeps along your face can cause acne breakouts. If you've noticed a connection between your hair and acne, make sure you shampoo daily, be careful not to apply hairstyling products near your skin and try and keep your hair away from your face.

Hair care products may cause acne ...

Your hair care products may be causing your acne breakouts! If you suspect this is the case, use conditioner near the ends of your hair only, and ensure that styling products don't come into contact with your skin. If your breakouts clear up after a few days, you'll have identified the cause.

Contraception *

Because of the important role that hormones play in the development of acne, many women find that hormonal treatments (such as birth control pills) can clear their complexions while providing contraceptive benefits. See your doctor for more information.

Stress acne*

Get the appropriate treatment early to help. Talk to your doctor if you think your acne is being caused by a drug prescribed for stress or depression.

Which acne treatment is best? ...

It all depends on whether you have minimal, mild, moderate or severe acne. When you and your doctor choose the treatment that's right for you, you'll stop new acne blemishes from developing and start enjoying clear skin.

Eliminate blackheads and whiteheads ...

Trying to eliminate blackheads and whiteheads? Look for non-comedogenic products, which are less likely to cause blackheads (called open comedones) or whiteheads (closed comedones). However, since no product is non-comedogenic for everybody, it's a good idea to carefully test any new product on your own skin before using it regularly.

Do you have minimal acne? ...

Minimal acne is characterized by a few blackheads or whiteheads and the occasional pimple. This type of acne can be treated with skin care products available in your local drugstore. Usually containing salicyclic acid and available as lotions, gels or creams, these products unblock your pores and reduce blackheads.
